Born in 1989, Athena grew up playing Irish music on a variety of instruments in rural Ireland. She graduated from the University of Oxford with a First Class Honours BA in Music, followed by two years at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan, Italy studying composition.
Her compositions have been performed in Ireland, England, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Spain, and the USA. Her piece for choir, Lune et l’autre, received the IAWM 2016 Search For New Music Award. Her piece for ensemble and voice, IFF (2022), was commissioned by Radio France and featured on France Musique. Currently exploring the world of film-scoring, she scored the Portuguese short film Ursula and is embarking on a feature-length film score.
Wearing other hats, Athena is co-writing a feature-length film in collaboration with her mother. She is also a fiddle player, appearing in the Irish music duo The Cat’s Meow, and she performed as a member of the London-based indie/rock band Cordless Kites who launched their debut album in 2021.
