York St John Takeover Concert
Saturday 2nd May, 1.00pm
York Unitarian Chapel
This Late Music Concert features Louis Andriessen’s composition ‘Workers Union’, a strenuous and powerful piece focused around playing in unison. The intention of this piece is to portray the sound of something mechanical as the ensemble plays together. The players will focus on sections that repeat patterns that ascend and descend in pitch. Through the unison there will be parts that split into two groups where alternating lines will join back together. This will form the centrepiece for this Takeover performance and will be performed by music students from York St John’s university.
Following this, there will be a selection of original compositions that will be showcased by the student composers throughout the concert; these pieces will range across the different year groups in the music and musical theatre courses and will present a variety of different styles and genres.
